Many here may be familiar with one of the right wing favorite global warming deniers named Lord Christopher Monckton.

Monckton is a piece of work I have been following this story for the past few months as it unfolds.

This episode begins when Monckton gave a climate change denial talk to a small university in Minnesota. That talk infuriated a professor at another university who later put together a powerful presentation debunking Christopher Monckton. The presentation is rather lengthy but well worth the time spent.

Short story is the research papers presented by Monckton as evidence against global warming actually said the opposite.

Monckton initially reacted by hurling ad hominem attacks against John Abraham and sought to pressure St. Thomas University to remove the presentation and take disciplinary action against Professor Abraham. .

To their credit, St. Thomas University did not back down to Monckton's tactics and here is their response:
Quote:

We received your email response to our June 25, 2010 letter. The University of St Thomas respects your right to disagree with Professor Abraham, just as the University respects Professor Abraham's right to disagree with you. What we object to are your personal attacks against Father Dease, and Professor Abraham, your inflammatory language, and your decision to disparage Professor Abraham, Father Dease and The University of St Thomas.

Please be advised that neither we nor the University of St Thomas will communicate with you any further about your decision to sully the University of St. Thomas, Professor Abraham, and others rather than to focus on the scholarly differences between you and Professor Abraham.

Signed: Phyllis Karasov, Moore Costellow and Hart, P.L.L.P.
h/t to the popular science blogger, Professor P. Z. Myers

Here is an extensive "rap sheet" on Lord Christopher Monckton.

Thanks for the ref to the slide presentation. Abraham performed the same task as any scientist should by reviewing Monckton's claims. The sad thing is he had to waste his time analayzing Monckton. Monckton is not a scientist. His papers aren't based on scientific theory or, in some cases, fact. My favorite statement by Abraham occurred on slide 65 of his presentation where he sites Monckton's statement on interglacials being warmer in the past than in the present with the arguement being --

"Hey, if it's warmer then and the earth survived why do we care about temperatures now?"

That statement sums up the idiocy of global climate deniers in that it sparks a question for them in my mind -- "How did our species live during those ancient glacial years, idiots! The earth will survive no matter what. Even if you send nuclear bombs all over the earth, it will survive - but you won't!"

Gee, I'm so looking foward to living in a warmer climate than now!!!! It should be wonderful to walk outside and have the Chinese glue melt out of my tennis shoes. I think a slide about my melting tennis shoes should accompany all presentations.
