Occupy Wall Street West: San Francisco Protesters Arrested Blocking Entrance To Wells Fargo Building
TERRY COLLINS 01/20/12 04:32 PM ET Associated Press

" SAN FRANCISCO — At least a dozen people were arrested Friday during an anti-Wall Street protest in downtown San Francisco, mostly for blocking an entrance at a bank's corporate headquarters.

The midday arrests came as hundreds of protesters gathered in the rain attempting to disrupt business in the city's Financial District as part of daylong Occupy Wall Street-related demonstrations scheduled around the county demanding that banks end evictions and foreclosures...."

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The “Occupy Wall Street” protest moved through its 16th day on Sunday, continuing with no end in sight after at least 700 people were arrested over the weekend.

Live streaming video of the movement on Sunday featured a bearded activist describing the scene in lower Manhattan after spending the night outside in a sleeping bag.

Meetings and forums were planned for Sunday at Zuccotti Park, the privately-owned plaza off Broadway near the New York Stock Exchange.

A bit more than two weeks ago, six people were arrested in the first day of the “Occupy Wall Street” protest. By the end of the first weekend, that number grew to dozens.

"A Message from Occupied Wall Street (Day Nine)
Published 2011-09-26 08:03:45 UTC by OccupyWallSt

This is the ninth communiqué from the 99 percent. We are occupying Wall Street. The police barricades that have been surrounding the Stock Exchange help.

Sunday has been decreed, once again, a day of rest. We didn't march. We have made a new world, a new city within the city. We are working on a new sky for where the towers are now.

Throughout the day our sisters and brothers arrested yesterday came back home to Liberty Plaza. They greeted the new faces that have joined us here. They shared their stories of imprisonment, of medical care denied and delayed. We welcomed them and listened."

"Reverend Billy

Yesterday was a day of action, and today was one of healing, discussion, and preparation. Working groups met in small circles around the plaza, planning their work and preparing to report back to the General Assembly as a whole. The Assembly debated, as always, the hows and whys of being here. In the morning, we talked about the occupations rising up in cities around the United States, joining us in what we're doing, as people begin rediscovering the power in themselves against the powers looming over them in buildings. We talked of calling more people to do what we're doing. In the evening we talked about staying, or leaving, and what this space means for us. We love it, we're almost addicted to it, but what we are is more than this."

""Update on the Occupy Wall Street / New York Action
Posted Mon, 09/26/2011 - 2:22am by IWW.org Editor
Branches: NYC GMB
Campaigns: General Defense Committee
Union News: News - All Departments and Unions
This is a first-hand account by an IWW member / participant:

I just got back from the occupation.

There was almost no police there today. About 2-3 dozen . The other days there were several hundreds ( and cops from Jersey City-- a different state who knows why)

The occupation is right in front of an FBI office for what that does?

The police brutality was a big full page photo on the front of the NY Daily News today -- they print 500,000 copies, it is a major paper. The news did a big inside story right next to a page of reports about big shots who paid themselves giant salaries ripping off the tax payers . The brutality even got mentioned in the NY Times -- hard to imagine ! It was on page 20. Even conservative radio stations reported the unprovoked attacks and mace .

Some people were still being released late into tonight. A small young guy was released after 27.5 hours . He had been arrested 3pm Sat. He told me he is seriously impressed with the IWWs he was in jail with.

Some people are worried that late tonight the cops might attack when the crowd is at its smallest. They really want people to be watching on live stream and people to be there late into the night, early in the morning. Luckily there are 3 major English language TV station trucks there now.

The people are trying to very carefully to stay in the most positive relationship with the NYPD.

They are really trying. Lots of cops talk about agreeing with the protest but they don't want to lose there jobs.

If you are not close to NYC can you please look at the livestream sometimes late at night?

If you are near NYC please go there late at nights .

This seems to be what the people need the most right now

If you see bad things on the live feed PLEASE call . PLEASE. Talk to the cops in a professional manner. Emphasize they are getting hurt by Wall Street also.

Hot , humid and tired,

PS THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

PSS at 5:30pm I counted 1795-1800 protesters there. More people marched in as a group right after that. ""

Michael Moore was there apparently last night to encourage the masses to continue their fight. Happy to see him there inspiring everyone.

Occupy Wall Street protesters arrested on Brooklyn Bridge

Hundreds held by NYPD – including New York Times journalist – after attempted march across bridge ends in chaos

Paul Harris in New York
guardian.co.uk, Sunday 2 October 2011 00.58 BST

More than 700 people were arrested on the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday evening during a march by anti-Wall Street protesters who have been occupying a downtown Manhattan square for two weeks.

The group, called Occupy Wall Street, has been protesting against the finance industry and other perceived social ills by camping out in Zuccotti park in New York.

During the afternoon a long line of protesters numbering several thousand snaked through the streets towards the landmark bridge across the East River with the aim of ending at a Brooklyn park.

However, during the march across the bridge groups of protesters sat down or strayed into the road from the pedestrian pathway. They were then arrested in large numbers by officers who were part of a heavy police presence shepherding the march along its path.

At one stage 500 protesters were blocked off by police on the bridge. At least one journalist, freelancer Natasha Lennard for the New York Times, was among those arrested. "About half way across the group of people who wanted to occupy the bridge launched their action and stepped into the road. They wanted to get arrested. It was sort of the idea," said Yaier Heber, one of the marchers.

But others said the sit-down protest appeared to happen only after the protesters were deliberately blocked off by police after actually being allowed onto the roadway. "They met the police line and ended up being arrested one by one," said Damon Eris, another protester.

The march ended in chaotic scenes with police buses driving up the bridge to be filled with arrested marchers. The packed buses then drove off to central booking. Meanwhile, other marchers waited at the bottom of the bridge's Manhattan side and cheered as some released protesters, or those who had escaped being blocked off, came back down. "Let them go! Let them go!" was a frequent chant.

It was a different scene from the night before when an equally large march had ended up at the city's police headquarters. That demonstration had been against the brutal treatment meted out by some police on protesters on a march the weekend before. Video of one senior police officer spraying pepper spray on female protesters went viral on the internet and drew widespread condemnation.

But the incident did help put the Occupy Wall Street movement into American newspapers and TV shows that had hitherto paid it little attention. The group, drawn from a wide range of backgrounds, say they are inspired by social movements in Spain and the Arab spring. Last week the protesters attracted numerous celebrity visits, including actor Susan Sarandon and film-maker Michael Moore. This week they are expected to get an injection of support from local labour unions.

The movement has also started to spread in significant numbers to several other major cities. On Saturday in Los Angeles hundreds of protesters marched on the city hall with the intention of starting a similar encampment. In Boston protesters have already started camping out in Dewey square, near the city's financial district. Unlike in New York, where protesters are not allowed to create shelter in Zuccotti park, Occupy Boston has been able to set up rows of tents.

I found this image someone put together quite revealing. Liberal media? I think not. Simple example of how the propagandist media attempts to control the message in favor of the authoritarian regime run by the elites.

United Steelworkers are now getting involved. Yippy-Skippy!

The United Steelworkers, North America’s largest industrial union, announced on Friday that it supported the ongoing “Occupy Wall Street” protest that began in lower Manhattan and has slowly spread to other cities across the United States.

The protesters have pledged to occupy Wall Street until something is done about corporate greed and corporate influence on the U.S. government. They have been camped out in New York’s old Liberty Plaza since September 17.

“The United Steelworkers union stands in solidarity with and strongly supports Occupy Wall Street,” Leo W. Gerard, International President of the United Steelworkers, said in a statement.

USAToday is doing the same MSM crap trying to depict the movement as chaotic and without a purpose. Usually, the comments after an article on usatoday.com is full of Mush Limpball, Neil Buttz listener comments. I was pleasantly surprised to see some posts like the following:

This article is all wrong. I was there. The protestors did not "shut down the Brooklyn Bridge" the police helped us. THEY were the ones stopping traffic for the protestors. THEY were the ones that then divided the protestors, let some free and then started arresting all the other ones.
Otherwise how would the protestors have stopped trafic in the first place?

Grassroots movements are originally ambiguous because they are built from the ground up. they are organic in their making.

Get the story right USATODAY.

This is reporting? "The collection of people in tie-dyed T-shirts and star-spangled underwear"? Are you kidding? As if the only people who care about social justice are hippies? I have been at Occupy Wall Street for the last two days, and I can assure all that this is very far from an accurate description of the vast spectrum of participants in the protests. Get it together Mr and Mrs Reporters, and start telling it how it really is!

Maybe they're protesting the demise of retirement pensions in the work place as they were replaced by 401k plans used to harvest the working classes in order to fluff the surplus wealth portfolios of Wall Street Fat Cats. Or is that just MY take? All this up and down is making fortunes for the tycoons while the slow responding 401k investor watches his money disappear.

I'm glad some of them are holding the MSM accountable for being lazy SOB's following in Fox New's footsteps.

From the New York Times:
"Anti-Wall Street Protests Spread to Other CitiesBy TIMOTHY WILLIAMS and STEVEN YACCINO
Published: October 3, 2011

On Monday, protesters were camped out in Los Angeles near City Hall, assembled in front of the Federal Reserve Bank building in Chicago and marching through downtown Boston to rally against corporate greed, unemployment and the role that financial institutions have played in pushing the country into its continuing economic malaise.

Though the groups have no central organization and protesters in various cities are encouraged to come up with their own list of reasons for demonstrating, the protests have been organized using Facebook and Twitter to collect money, food and blankets and to enlist more supporters.

The groups have committees responsible for welcoming, security, transportation, art and the news media. Each has its own Google group. The arrests Saturday of more than 700 protesters on the Brooklyn Bridge for blocking the roadway have energized the movement, and on Monday, new protests were planned for other cities, including Memphis, Tenn.; Allentown, Pa.; and Hilo, Hawaii, according to organizers. William Rivers Pitt.

Before anything else, I would like to apologize for the mess outside your office. It's been three weeks since all those hippies and punk-rockers and students and union members and working mothers and single fathers and airline pilots and teachers and retail workers and military service members and foreclosure victims decided to camp out on your turf, and I'm sure it has been quite an inconvenience for you. How is a person supposed to spend their massive, virtually untaxed bonus money on a double latte and an eight-ball with all that rabble clogging the sidewalks, right?

Listening to Mike tonight, he is absolutely right about being mindful of infiltrators. I mention similarly at FDL the the powers that be aren't gonna just go away.
As an example I heard FOX News "liberal" Alan Colmes attempt to marginalize the "occupy" movements.

Anyway, I wholeheartedly support ending this feudal capitalistic system which is destroying humanity. This may the movement to help bring this about.

The outcome will be not a damn thing if the "left" pouts and sits on its worthless ass come the next election cycle. Happy with the results of 2010? I sure as hell am not! However I can complain because I voted.

"The Iowa State Patrol arrested 30 adults and two juveniles at Sunday night’s Occupy Iowa protest at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines.

Officials had given the protesters multiple warnings that they would remove anyone on Capitol property after the park in front of the building closed at 11 p.m.

As the time approached, several dozen protesters willing to risk arrest linked arms and faced the State Patrol force that was amassing in front of them."
