Boy Indiana, you sure put a bunch of greedy pigs in your government. The orwellian named "right to work" bill will guarantee your wages and cost of living will continue to decline. Have fun with that. In a note of irony, I hear the whackjob that sponsored the billl is from a town in Indiana called Uniondale? lol

Yea, another bunch of DUMBass working stiffs who watch fox news and wonder why union employees make more and still have some benefits. They would rather ask why unions have more, instead of why they have less! Fox and limpbaugh are doing great work for their corporate OWNERS!!!!!! Good luck competing with China, Indiana!

That is what always cracks me up. Its not fair that some other group fo workers has a good wage and good benefits. In fact its outrageous and we must put a stop to it before it ruins our country! Yet we have many examples of countries the world over who are in much better financial shape than the US AND whose citizens enjoy a much higher standard of living. Countries that offer a much greater; almost unbelievable by American standards; number of benefits and guarantees to their citizens.
Like Sweden subsidizes stay at home parents. They are actually paid by the government to stay at home and raise their children rather than work. But to offset the loss of income the government subsidizes them so they can have a middle class life, have children and not need to be in the top 25% of income earners like in the US. Sweden's government thinks that it is better for society in the long run to keep family ties strong and is willing to pay for that to happen.
Or Germany's government, who during their own short lived recession worked out a deal with the business community where workers would reduce the hours they work (4 day weeks or less) so more could be employed...but through a government subsidy retained their full-time pay and it allowed their economy to bounce back as people had more money to spend since unemployment declined. Just common sense imo.
We know what works. We know what doesn't. What we are experiencing in the US is not some crazy accident but intentionally inflicted on us by the corporate whores who know that in order for corporation to take over they need to control all the levers of power. So in the US we have seen a dismantling of individual rights simultaneous to broad and sweeping measures that not only indemnify corporations for culpability when caught doing illegal acts but to grant them many previously uniquely individual rights. People who claim corporations have the same rights as people are flat out wrong. They have more.
So when you elect the lackeys and sycophants of corporations to office don't be surprised when you find all the rights you previously took for granted gone. And no, in the long run it doesn't matter whether said quisling is of the D or R persuasion. Having a neolib Dem is as bad as any Repuke. Party means nothing. Your ideology is what matters assuming you are sincere in what you claim it to be and that should be the standard by which we judge all politicians. Using money as the measuring stick of legitimacy and therefore your vote has always been a mistake and will continue to be.

I`m middle class, and I`m a union member. I don`t have a problem making good money. All middle class people should. We are the ones who pay the taxes! You can`t squeeze blood out of a turnip, and ala Mitt Romney the rich pay their 15% capital gains and hide the rest overseas! If the ultra rich and corporations paid their fair share, maybe we could pay less, or have better services. I believe in bitching up, not down! What so many working class people forget is, we are going to pay taxes no matter what. It`s just a matter of whether your going to get anything for it! If left to the rethugs, we won`t. They will reduce or eliminate SS and medicare as well as education and infrastructure. They know their little world will stay nice! They spend all of their time blaming everyone else so people won`t pay attention to their real thievery! It makes me sick to see working class people fall for it!

Having lived in Europe for a few years, they really do have a civil society. Although I absolutely do no agree with subsidizing stay-at-home parents, there is no doubt that the social safety net of the northern European nations should be the model to aim for.
Alas, you have pointed out something that I have been chirping about forever it seems... The working-their-butt-off-and-still-struggling crowd gets angry about people making a good living instead of demanding more.
Hell, even Chairman Hu's people in China get it! China has been losing factories due to competition from lower-cost Vietnam. All because Chinese workers are demanding better pay and living standards.

The specific policy supplements income for one parent to stay home, recognizing that it is not effective or desirable for both parents to work during early childhood years. You combine that with worker protections and livable wage pay and you create an environment where people's success is not the exception but the norm. Do we place a value on raising children in loving and attentive homes or should we have a only the wealthiest survive and thrive society and the rest of us duke it out? It seems to work for Sweden as they place near the top in almost every measurable global category. Of course if you want to maintain the largest military in the world several times over then something has to give as it has in the US. Despite the massive public welfare reforms brought to us by Clinton, we continue to subsidize all kinds of private welfare in the US; why not subsidize working families instead?

As someone very proud to NOT be a parent (& never will be), there is already enough subsidies for parents!
They've got their tax credits and schools that we all pay for. Everyone needs to pitch in for education - period. However making all of these exceptions for parents is just not acceptable.
Being a parent is a choice and a very difficult one!
