Take it from somebody who lives where there's only one radio station - that plays golden oldies all the time.
Best way I've found to survive is to set up a series of podcasts through I-Tunes (and throw in a little BartCop Radio on the side).
I've got XM Satellite set up but one can only listen to so much Ed Shultz before going nuts.
I don't think you'll find any progressive radio in Arizona for the next couple of years. I understand that Jan Brewer signed an executive order banning it. BTW - how the hell did Arizona elect someone like Janet for governor on the one hand - and then pick Jan Brewer as the back-up. Isn't that a lot like an Obama - Cheney ticket |

There is also little or no information about what happened to 1190 AM in Phoenix. It appears that Phoenix AZ is doomed to have no alternative talk radio to the right propaganda machine. |
We got screwed in South Florida too. WINZ switched to sports format at 6 PM last Friday and no more Randi at WJNO in West Palm Beach. It astounds me that progressive radio didn't make it here. We have the highest amount of registered Dems in Dade (Miami), Broward (Fort Lauderdale) and Palm Beach counties.
It's really depressing. |
It isn't a question of "not making it." It's a crud channel station. hartmann says there is no politics involved but it's a business decision. I don't know if I buy that. why would you take something that has good ratings and crucify it for sports radio, which has NO ratings? unless someone wanted to control content.
like why does ADM or GE advertise their products on the tube? not because you are going to buy one of their (flawed) nuclear reactors or poisoned food. it's about controlling content. |
Can you say Clear Channel? _________________ Pass the Popcorn |

When Obama took over on 21st, one of the first things I thought he would address was media reform--in addition to election reform. I have posted on this many times in "free-for-all" under title of "progressive radio". I do believe it will happen when FCC recinds 96 Communications Act. At that time more indy stations can come into the market and present some diversity to the airwaves instead of the dribble we now have. San Fran is w/o progressive station too. So all of NorCal is screwed as well. So I know how you feel. I'm going through withdrawls. I think I have a tummy ache.

I don't have much hope that the Obama admin will do much for airwave fairness. I don't think it is on their radar screen.
As far as San Francisco is concerned, they still have the Green 960. It is nearly the last bastion of Clear Channel owned stations still broadcasting progressive radio. http://www.green960.com/main.html _________________ Pass the Popcorn |

The problem with the station owner's thinking is, that since we have a Democrat in the WH, we don't need that many liberals on the air. Those stations changing their format are owned by mega-corporations (fascists). _________________ WAKE UP EVERYONE! DID YOU HEAR WHAT I SAID?!
