Okay, kids... let's try this out.
As a solution to the problem of vanishing links, I thought we might try out a special thread, devoted to useful URLs of a liberal or progressive nature. So whenever you find a website or page that you think has information that might be valuable in battle, post a link to it here with a brief description when appropriate.
Try to limit links to those that are likely to have long-range usefulness -- ie, not every newspaper piece you run across. This is primarily intended to be a repository for facts, quotes, etc., not an ongoing journal of the Bush administration's daily wrongdoings. Feel free to plug your own blogs/websites, of course. :)
Also, because I'm starting this thread with the intention that it will be useful to liberals, for this thread only I think it's reasonable to rescind normal forum rules and instead reserve the right to edit/delete any post containing anything other than liberal links. Any of the mods can at any time remove or alter any post that they think was posted in bad faith, or if things get too conversational in here.
How 'bout a few obvious ones to get started?
The Mike Malloy Show, natch.
(Don't forget his website's got a link page, too!)
The White Rose Society
Daily re-broadcasts of the Mike Malloy Show, plus many others.
Project for the Old American Century
Dave Ward's own Re:zine
Common Dreams
Daily digest of liberal opinion and news.
AlterNet
More daily news and editorial comment.
Buzzflash
Continuously-updated liberal news and opinion.
The Guardian
Sanity from across the pond.
The Whiskey Bar
Billmon's really fantastic blog.
WMDs in Iraq Quotes
A damning collection of quotes on WMDs from all the big guys: Bush, Cheney, Condi, Rumsfeld, etc.
Iraq Coalition Casualty Count
A regularly-updated resource on soldiers who have died in Iraq. Includes names, dates, cause of death, and various statistical analyses of combat casualties. |

I'm going to add some shortly, but first, here's some raw code for everybody to use. If you want to post some URLs, you can just copy the chunk of text below, paste it into your new post, and then change the URL, name and description. That way your own contrbutions will be formatted like Novena's were.

Take Back the Media
Efforts to reclaim corporate, right-wing media as the property of the people.
Guardian--Key Iraq Speeches & Documents
The Guardian's fantastic collection of materials regarding the war.
The Propaganda Remix Project
Old war propaganda, wittily revamped for modern times.
Greg Palast
The most honest, important journalist in the world. Period.
Smirking Chimp
A butt-kicking "Liberal media news filter."
The Internet Sacred Text Archive
The Skeptic's Annotated Bible
Positive Atheism
Infidels: The Secular Web
The four links above are essential references for just about any discussion/debate involving religion.
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence
The above link goes to their "facts" page, which is particularly useful.
Critiques of Libertarianism
You think Republicans are bad? Libertarians are just plain nuts. This website is absolutely essential reading and reference for progressives. Much of the material on it also applies to Conservatives. Learn this site well, and you're well-armed against right-wingers of all types and stripes.
From the Wilderness
Michael Ruppert's excellent resource. Lots of information you won't find even on other Liberal news sites.
Central Air Media
Liberal/progressive radio network.
Op Ed News
A dizzying array of liberal news and op-ed pieces. Kinda like Buzzflash got beat on with an ugly stick.
Progressive Radio & Media
Links to a wide array of progressive/liberal programs. Very useful!
Thomas: Legislative Information
Indispensible resource for keeping an eye on what the Senate and House are up to.
C-SPAN
Another indispensible resource for seeing what our elected (and unelected) officials are up to. And with RealPlayer, you can tune in to C-SPAN Radio.
Project Gutenberg
Although it's a very diverse site offering free e-books on just about any topic imaginable, it's relevent to political discussions because you can find a lot of historical documents and books here, ranging from documents by and about the Founding Fathers, through Abraham Lincon, John F. Kennedy, and vital documents like the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the inaugural addresses of every president, and lots more.
Dumb Quotes from G.W. Bush
A very large, neatly catagorized collection of quotes from Bush, including citation of source(s) for most.

| Quote: | | Recognizing this void in American civic culture and the need to create a new organization, 40 national leaders, including former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, formed Project Vote Smart (PVS) in 1992. Dedicated to upholding the ideal of democracy and serving the American people with unbiased and accurate information, PVS constructed a user-friendly voter's self-defense system accessible through a website and a toll-free hotline (1-888-VOTE-SMART) over a 10-year period. Described by the New York Times as "one of the most comprehensive campaign information sites on the web" and by the Philadelphia Inquirer as "spectacular" for gathering in one place the information any intelligent voter needs, PVS is becoming recognized as the answer for objective and trustworthy information. A primary goal for PVS in the years ahead is to increase awareness of its services and use by American citizens. |
