I guess this is how they start to clamp down on the free flow of info on the net.

I'm at the library, and surfing around.

The library's "porn" filter blocked the following:

www.buzzflash.org
the site for the old american century.

I haven't tried others, but I wonder who writes the filtering software the public library uses.

Thanks for mentioning that...I'm gonna get hold of my friend TJ, who runs the POAC site. He'll be appalled at this, but I doubt he'll be surprised. The only things obscene on http://www.oldamericancentury.org are the tales of Repug corruption, mismanagement, waste and fascism.

Here is a very good organization in the UK:

http://www.globalwitness.org

They opened the world's eyes to the horrors of the diamond industry.

If you want to see first hand the documents proving the reaganites' cocaine import enterprise (among other things) go to:

To buy great progressive goodies: http://www.northernsun.com

Real news from Africa (the continent does exist although corporate media wants you think it does not) : http://www.allafrica.com

A few of my personal faves (and if I duplicated any others, my apologies):

Baghdad Burning -- The REAL story in Iraq, from a young woman's view

Black Commentator -- Simply the BEST damn Black progressive site EVER!!!

Open Letter Online -- Scott Tucker's repository of wisdom from a radical queer's eye view

Eye on Sports -- Dave Zirin's unique Leftist perspective on the world of sports

CounterPunch -- Maybe a bit more radical than the usual fare here, but still worthy for their strong political critiques

And a bonus site related to my own personal obsession...i.e., linking sexual liberation to progressive theory:

Nina Hartley's Free Forum -- Yes, it's related to her main site which is about her career as a porn legend/sex pleasure activist...but the "Off Topic" section goes deep into political and intellectual discussion that can get quite interesting..even if you're not into porn per se. (And I'd say that even if I didn't contribute regularly to it. Smile )

If I find any others, I'll post them here.

:)

Progressives need to tell America what we believe and why we believe it.

This is the goal of the Principles Project.
